Alastair is Director of ES Landscape Planning and brings with him over 18 years of landscape planning experience and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a wide range of projects for clients in the private sector.

Alastair has experience working in a variety of sectors, including residential, distribution, renewable energy, leisure and retail. These projects are often located in sensitive landscapes, such as National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), World Heritage Sites or various local landscape designations. Alastair specialises in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs) and is an accomplished professional witness, having worked with a number of the UK’s top planning barristers at public inquiry and informal hearing. He also regularly provides soft and hard landscape design advice on a variety of schemes ranging from initial inception and feasibility through to detailed submissions for large scale, strategic developments down to single, bespoke builds. Alastair has extensive experience of negotiating with local planning authorities and other statutory consultees to ensure appropriate and deliverable landscape mitigation measures, whilst ensuring that the key interests of the client are safeguarded throughout.

Alastair prides himself on adopting a positive approach to new projects and looks to provide pragmatic and commercially aware advice.

Alastair is a chartered member of the Landscape Institute and has successfully mentored a number of candidates on the Landscape Institute’s Pathway to Chartership (P2C). He has also recently worked with students at De Montfort’s School of Architecture, providing invaluable landscape insights into their final design projects.
